From <strong>Bayonne<\/strong> to <strong>Hendaye<\/strong> and <strong>Saint-Jean-de-Luz<\/strong> to <strong>Espelette,<\/strong> here are the dates you won&#8217;t want to miss on your vacation in the <strong>Pyr\u00e9n\u00e9es-Atlantiques.<\/strong> Mark your calendars! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the <strong>Basque Country<\/strong>, the summer season is punctuated by village festivals. Every village has its own patron saint&#8217;s day. Originally, these festivities were dedicated to the cult of the village&#8217;s patron saint. Over the years, these traditional festivals have reinvented themselves to attract an ever-growing audience. Here&#8217;s a small, non-exhaustive selection of the highlights not to be missed during your camping holiday in the Basque Country.    <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>IN JULY<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tuna Festival, Saint-Jean-de-Luz<\/h2>\n\n<p>Every year, the F\u00eate du Thon de <strong>Saint-Jean-de-Luz<\/strong> kicks off the summer festivities. This traditional festival is held on both sides of the harbour (St Jean de Luz \/ Ciboure). On the program: tuna grills, bandas parades, Basque songs, dance, confetti battle and toro de fuego.  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>When: Second Saturday in July.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Chipiron Festival, Hendaye<\/h2>\n\n<p>The F\u00eate du Chipiron in <strong>Hendaye<\/strong> is one of the summer&#8217;s major festivals, with a special focus on gastronomy, and the chipiron in particular. This small squid, typical of the <strong>Basque region<\/strong>, can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. The program includes musical entertainment to the rhythm of bandas and p\u00e9tanque competitions during the day, and balls, concerts and toros de fuego in the evening.  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>When: every year on July 13.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ustaritz festivals<\/h2>\n\n<p>Between <strong>Biarritz<\/strong> and <strong>Espelette,<\/strong> the small village <strong>of Ustaritz<\/strong> celebrates for five days in July, around the <strong>Hiribehere<\/strong> fronton. On the program: Basque dances, Basque strength challenges, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.camping-biper-gorri.com\/en\/blog\/all-or-almost-all-you-need-to-know-about-basque-pelota\/\">Basque pelota<\/a> games, musical entertainment, m\u00e9choui, agricultural show, funfair, DJ evenings, fireworks&#8230;<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>When: every year in mid-July.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">F\u00eates de Bayonne<\/h2>\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.camping-biper-gorri.com\/en\/blog\/book-your-campsite-for-the-bayonne-festivities\/\">F\u00eates de Bayonne<\/a> are the must-attend summer event in the <strong>Basque Country<\/strong>. Every year, the feria brings together over a million festayres dressed in red and white for five days and nights. On the program: cow races, Basque pelota, float parades, gastronomy, traditional music and dance, concerts, fireworks&#8230;<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>When: The F\u00eates de <strong>Bayonne<\/strong> begin on the Wednesday before the first weekend in August and end on the following Sunday.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Also read on the campsite blog: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.camping-biper-gorri.com\/en\/blog\/book-your-campsite-for-the-festivities-in-pamplona\/\">Pamplona, on the other side of the Pyrenees, one of the world&#8217;s best-known festivals<\/a><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>IN AUGUST<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">F\u00eates d&#8217;Espelette<\/h2>\n\n<p>The F\u00eates du village in <strong>Espelette<\/strong> take place at the beginning of August. On the program: concerts, musical entertainment, traditional Basque songs and dances, a drum and brass band, mutxiko (Basque jumping), a show of Basque strength, as well as a funfair, agricultural show, Toro de fuego and fireworks to round off the 5 days of festivities. <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>When: early August each year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Basque Festival, Hendaye<\/h2>\n\n<p>A showcase for <strong>Hendaye&#8217;s<\/strong> entertainment, the F\u00eate Basque is the must-attend summer event on the Basque coast. Since 1930, this traditional festival has been attracting big crowds. On the program: cavalcade and float parade to the sound of bandas and txarangas, pelota game on the fronton, ball and fireworks.  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>When: every year, 2nd weekend in August, from Friday to Sunday.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">F\u00eates d&#8217;Ascain<\/h2>\n\n<p><strong>Ascain&#8217;s<\/strong> patron saint&#8217;s festival takes place every summer over a five-day period in mid-August. <strong>Nestling<\/strong> at the foot of the Rhune, this small Basque village celebrates in style. On the program: a compendium of Basque culture, including pelota, dancing, singing and Basque strength games, as well as concerts, meals, bodegas and entertainment for children&#8230; <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>When: around August 15.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">F\u00eates d&#8217;Urrugne<\/h2>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.camping-biper-gorri.com\/en\/blog\/what-to-see-and-do-in-urrugne\/\">Urrugne<\/a>&#8216;s famous &#8220;Bixintxo&#8221; festival takes place over 5 days in early September. The Corrida p\u00e9destre traditionally opens the festivities.
