Close to our 4-star Le Biper Gorri campsite, the family circuit (called Itzulia Ttikia) offers a lovely stroll around the famous Basque village, between countryside, forest and lush green valleys. A chance to immerse yourself in the heart of the Basque countryside from the heights, and to discover its built heritage (the feudal castle of the Barons of Ezpeleta, the 17th-century church&#8230;). On the way, stop off at the farm to buy <strong>Espelette<\/strong> chilli pepper and ewe&#8217;s milk cheese direct from the producer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Distance: 7 km, altitude difference: 158 m, average time: 1h30, level of difficulty: very easy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">La Bergerie hill in Cambo-les-Bains<\/h2>\n\n<p>Leaving from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.camping-biper-gorri.com\/en\/blog\/cambo-les-bains-villa-arnaga-and-edmond-rostand-museum\/\">Cambo-les-Bains<\/a>, the famous spa and tourist resort of the <strong>Basque Country<\/strong>, set off to conquer the Bergerie hill. Formerly a private estate, this wooded area (17.5 ha) is now classified as a Sensitive Natural Area (ENS). Accessible to the general public, the itinerary follows the route of the GR 8, forming a small, easy, family-friendly, shady loop. From the heights, there&#8217;s a lovely view of the village rooftops, the Basque mountains (Atlzamendi, Ursuay, Mondarrain, La Rhune) and the village of <strong>Itxassou<\/strong> in the distance.<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Distance: 2.5 km, altitude difference: 80 m, average duration: 1 h 30, level of difficulty: very easy (yellow signposted trail)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The coastal path, from Bidart to Hendaye<\/h2>\n\n<p>In the mood for the sea? Head for <g id=\"gid_0\">the coastal path<\/g> along the cliffs of the Corniche Basque! From <g id=\"gid_1\">Bidart<\/g> to <g id=\"gid_2\">Hendaye<\/g>, the Basque coast unveils its finest assets, with the ocean and the <g id=\"gid_3\">Pyrenees<\/g> range as a backdrop. This mythical route offers great swimming opportunities on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.camping-biper-gorri.com\/en\/blog\/basque-country-the-top-5-beaches-for-swimming-this-summer\/\">Basque country&#8217;s most beautiful beaches<\/a> in summer.   <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Distance: 25 km, average time: 5 to 6 hours, level of difficulty: medium.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Atharri Circuit from Itxassou<\/h2>\n\n<p>A hike that&#8217;s neither too long nor too difficult in the Basque Piedmont from the picturesque village of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.camping-biper-gorri.com\/en\/places\/itxassou-tourism\/\">Itxassou<\/a>. You&#8217;ll discover the <strong>Pas de Roland<\/strong> road, which follows the gorges of the <strong>Nive<\/strong> to the <strong>Laxia<\/strong> district. A lovely walk along the mountainside to the <strong>Col d&#8217;Atharri<\/strong>, the highest point of the hike. Don&#8217;t miss: the hamlet of <strong>Laxia<\/strong>, with its old mill and washhouse, <strong>Pas de Roland<\/strong>, and the panoramic views of the Basque coast and <strong>Nive<\/strong> valley.<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Distance: 9 km, altitude difference: 410 m, average duration: 3 hours, level of difficulty: medium<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Rhune trail from Ascain<\/h2>\n\n<p>A great classic of hiking in the <strong>Basque Country<\/strong>! At 905 meters above sea level, on the French-Spanish border, the summit of <strong>La Rhune<\/strong> is the mythical mountain of the <strong>Basque Country<\/strong>. There are several routes up La <strong>Rhune<\/strong> from the villages of <strong>Ascain<\/strong>, <strong>Sare<\/strong> and <strong>Olhette<\/strong>, or from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.camping-biper-gorri.com\/en\/blog\/the-train-de-la-rhune-takes-you-to-the-legendary-summit-of-the-basque-country\/\">the Col de Saint-Ignace station<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n<p>The easiest hike starts in <strong>Ascain<\/strong>, from the Carri\u00e8res parking lot, at 147 m altitude. Bring good shoes, water and a good level of fitness.
