During this ceremony, the village priest blesses the year&#8217;s peppers. October marks the end of the harvest of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.camping-biper-gorri.com\/en\/blog\/history-culture-recipes-espelette-chilli-pepper-the-pride-of-the-basque-country\/\">famous Basque pepper<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sunday at 10am, at Saint \u00c9tienne church in Espelette.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Brotherhood Parade and Enthronement Ceremony<\/h2>\n\n<p>Another eagerly-awaited moment, the parade of brotherhoods promises to be a colorful affair. The procession will wind its way through the village streets to the Ch\u00e2teau des Barons d&#8217;Ezpeleta, where the ritual induction of new members and presentation of the &#8220;Prix Piment&#8221; take place. Every year, the Confr\u00e9rie du<strong> Piment d&#8217;Espelette<\/strong> inducts new members from the worlds of sport, gastronomy, the press and show business.  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sunday at 11am, in the streets of Espelette (parade) and behind the <strong>Ch\u00e2teau des Barons d&#8217;Ezpeleta<\/strong> (induction ceremony and pimento award).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Makilaris show<\/h2>\n\n<p>The makilari is the chief musician who played the role of drum major in the military parades of the Napoleonic Guard. The tradition lives on in Basse-Navarre, and makilari are always present at popular festivals such as the Piment d&#8217;Espelette festival. To rapturous applause, the young makilaris twirl the makila around their fingers, passing it from one hand to the other, sometimes even behind their backs, to send it whirling through the air!  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sunday from 3.30pm, on the Espelette fronton.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The bandas festival in the streets<\/h2>\n\n<p>Bandas are a South-West tradition. All day long, brass instruments and drums will liven up the streets of <strong>Espelette<\/strong>, bringing warmth and good humor! Their varied repertoire ranges from traditional Navarrese, Basque and Landaise music, and sometimes South American, to more popular tunes and film music.  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sunday afternoon, in the streets of Espelette.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Basque song concert<\/h2>\n\n<p>As every year, the <strong>Espelette<\/strong> men&#8217;s choir will be performing in concert on Saturday afternoon at the <strong>Eglise Saint-\u00c9tienne<\/strong>. The Ezpeletan Kantuz choir, founded by former rugby international Peio Dospital, will perform traditional Basque, Spanish and Moli\u00e8re songs, with 28 singers and three musicians. <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Saturday at 5:30pm, at Saint-\u00c9tienne church.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The evening banquet<\/h2>\n\n<p>Saturday is banquet night in <strong>Espelette,<\/strong> with a host of gourmets to delight. On the menu: garbure, veal axoa, cheese and Basque cake. All washed down with <strong>Iroul\u00e9guy<\/strong> wine and accompanied by musical entertainment.  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Saturday at 8pm, under the covered market halls, Booking on site.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Practical info<\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The F\u00eate du <strong>Piment d&#8217;Espelette<\/strong> always takes place on the last weekend of October, unless it falls on October 31st.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All day long, gastronomic fair, sale of chillies and regional products, gastronomic meals in all the &#8220;Espelette Chilli Specialities&#8221; restaurants.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shuttle service from <strong>Saint-P\u00e9e-sur-Nivelle,<\/strong> <strong>Soura\u00efde golf course<\/strong>,<strong>Espelette<\/strong> campsite and <strong>Cambo-les-Bains<\/strong> bus station.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A parking area for camper vans is planned at the Errobi zone in <strong>Itxassou<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer gt-hide-mobile\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Pimento Festival is back in Espelette!
