Supervised by a state-certified instructor, you&#8217;ll be equipped with a wetsuit, helmet, neoprene socks and harness for abseiling. <\/p>\n\n<p>Experienced canyoning enthusiasts will discover some of France&#8217;s most beautiful descents and canyons that are both sporty, technical and wild.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Pas de Roland gorges (Itxassou)<\/h2>\n\n<p>Just 10 minutes from Le Biper Gorri campsite, try your hand at canyoning at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.camping-biper-gorri.com\/en\/places\/itxassou-tourism\/\">Itxassou<\/a>, at the source of the Nive, the <strong>Basque country<\/strong>&#8216;s emblematic river. In the heart of the <strong>Pas de Roland<\/strong> gorges, discover aquarando, a softer version of canyoning. On the program: small jumps (up to 7 m for the most daring), waterfalls, rapids and natural slides. With no harness or rope, you&#8217;ll be free to move about as you please.<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Technicity: beginner or discovery level (ideal for families with children)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When to use: May to June and September to November<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Where: Itxassou (6 km from the campsite)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Les Gorges du Chapitel (Arneguy)<\/h2>\n\n<p>Near <a href=\"https:\/\/www.camping-biper-gorri.com\/en\/places\/saint-jean-pied-de-port-tourism\/\">Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port<\/a>, the <strong>Chapitel<\/strong> canyon is a fun introductory canyon, ideal for a first approach to the activity with children. There&#8217;s plenty of jumping to be done, with a few jumps of up to 6 m, as well as natural slides and abseiling (some of it really fun). Highlights: a 10-metre abseil under a small waterfall and a superb slide with integrated springboard at the end of the canyon! And to make matters worse, the scenery is truly magnificent.<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Technicality: easy (family initiation)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When to use: April to June<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Where: Arneguy (45 km from the campsite)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Althagneta Canyon (Kakuetta Gorge)<\/h2>\n\n<p>Located in the commune of <strong>Sainte-Engr\u00e2ce<\/strong>, at the southern end of the Soule valley, the <strong>Althagneta<\/strong> canyon is for experts only. Immersed in the wilderness, the first section is not very steep, followed by a more vertical section in the middle of a cirque, which marks the start of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.camping-biper-gorri.com\/en\/blog\/the-kakuetta-gorge-in-the-heart-of-the-basque-mountains\/\">Kakuetta gorges<\/a>. A succession of abseils and descents in an idyllic setting. The highest waterfall is 35 metres high!   <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Technical features: difficult &#8211; very sporty canyoning (with a minimum of water)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When to use: May to June and September to November<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Where: Sainte-Engr\u00e2ce (95 km from the campsite)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Errekaltia Canyon (Kakuetta Gorge)<\/h2>\n\n<p>Near the village of <strong>Sainte-Engr\u00e2ce<\/strong>, the <strong>Errekaltia<\/strong> canyon &#8211; Canyon du Gendarme &#8211; is a tributary of the <strong>Kakuetta<\/strong> gorges. This vertical canyon, Althagneta&#8217;s little brother, offers a succession of waterfalls in an idyllic setting (ochre rock and lush vegetation) that flow into the <strong>Kakuetta<\/strong> gorges. The abseiling descents follow one another at a steady pace.<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Technicality: medium &#8211; sport canyoning<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When to practice: all year round<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Where: Sainte-Engr\u00e2ce (95 km from the campsite)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Harzubia Canyon (Kakuetta Gorge)<\/h2>\n\n<p><strong>Harzubia<\/strong> is the only large canyon in the <strong>Basque Country<\/strong> that is suitable for beginners. Perfect for learning the technique of abseiling! Also located in <strong>Sainte-Engr\u00e2ce<\/strong>, this very pretty Basque canyon is fun in a wild setting, and offers a nice run, with a fair number of abseils (over twenty) and refreshing pools. The route alternates between relatively narrow and steep areas, followed by sections that are more akin to descending a ravine.
