La Rhune is 25 minutes away from the campsite.
This is the highest mountain in the Basque country reaching an altitude of 905 metres. It stands on the border between France and Spain.
La Rhune has been a destination for visitors since the little train opened in 1924 with a 360° panorama over the Basque country, the Landes region and the Atlantic Ocean, combining the land and the sea.
There is an exceptional cultural and natural heritage here, with a 3-star rating in the Michelin Green Guide.
Enjoy a 35-minute climb at 9 km/h right at the heart of unspoilt nature. You will see the pottoks, the little Basque ponies living in complete freedom, sheep and wild vultures, the birds of prey closely associated with the Pyrenean chain.
The minimum stop at the summit is 35 minutes, but visitors are free to choose their train for the return trip.
There is a wide variety of hiking trails in the region, from a very easy level to difficult.
